The Sliven Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert for its 90th anniversary in the “Bulgaria” hall, the music event will be on May 27, Saturday.
In Sliven, the concert took place on May 4 in the “Sliven” hall, and with it the May days of culture “Sliven bonfires” were opened.
“The Sliven Symphony Orchestra is visiting the Sofia stage for the first time since 2007,” said the director of the orchestra, Kremena Oksenkrug, in an interview for BTA. “For about 15 years, our line-up has not appeared on a Sofia stage, even more so on such a prestigious one as the big hall “Bulgaria”. I am really extremely excited for this event, because not only we will have the opportunity to present ourselves to a Sofia audience, but and this concert is part of the 54th International Music Festival “Sofia Music Weeks”, one of the most prestigious Bulgarian forums for music and art. The challenge is great. We invite all our colleagues, friends, admirers of classical music”.
The opening piece is “Bulgarian Rhapsody” by the composer from Sliven, one of the founders of the orchestra, Misho Todorov. It was founded on May 6, 1933 under the name Sliven Philharmonic at the “Zora” community center. “Bulgarian Rhapsody” was written in 1923, when the “Vardar” rhapsody was also created.
The concert will be conducted by maestro Vladimir Kiradzhiev, whose musical career is connected with Sliven. He is also a member of the jury of the “Voice of Kamen” international competition, and the world-famous tenor Kamen Chanev is the other Sliven-born musician who will be honored. Soloists are the laureates of the First International Competition for Young Tenors “Voice of Kamen” Ilya Skvirsky, Russia, Kudaibergen Abildin, Kazakhstan and Anle Guo, China.
After the landmark “Bulgarian Rhapsody” by Misho Todorov, the program includes Suite No. 1 from Edvard Grieg’s most popular work “Peer Gynt”. Performances of tenor parts, arias, romances from operas, operettas and canzonets follow.
